“The challenges that have faced DLT (security, speed, interoperability) are now being taken head-on by a much larger group of technologists globally, including corporations with digital specialty groups. Digital groups within enterprises are now large contributors in the development, testing, and standardization of DLT. The financial services industry, in particular, has taken the lead in deploying live pilots in various aspects of the capital markets ecosystem, from bond offerings, securities settlement, and asset management. It’s only a matter of time before we see higher-value assets tied to the blockchain in terms of being digitally securitized, transferred, and settled.
An interesting and exciting use case of DLT has been the issuance and settlements of bond securities on-chain. Shadow bond settlement transactions have taken place both on public chains (Santander used Ethereum) and private chains such as Hyperledger, both of which present elegant applications of DLT within a fairly antiquated, slow segment of the financial industry.”
- Andrea Leccese (LinkedIn)
President and Portfolio Manager at Bluesky Capital, a quantitative alternative investment manager.
- Richard Mertl (LinkedIn)
Counsel at King & Wood Mallesons
- Harish D. Gupta (LinkedIn)
Co-founder and CEO of Polybird, a global marketplace for tokenized securities
“The biggest impact of the blockchain will be in the financial industry and specifically: payments, lending, and capital markets. In capital markets, tokenization is a game-changer and would upend the global private capital markets and eventually, public capital markets.”
- Jennifer Peng (LinkedIn)
Co-founder of Homebloc, addressing housing issues through democratizing ownershp, creating rental efficiency, and re-establishing trust
“When it comes to blockchain technology, people tend to think bitcoin, ethereum, or even Libra. However, the tokenization of assets on the blockchain is establishing a new business model for traditional investment. From precious metals to real estate, tokenization powered by blockchain reduces the investment threshold and improves liquidity. Wouldn’t it be cool to own a piece of an island?”
More speakers will be announced soon!
