Speaker Bios

Christie Nicholson

Christie Nicholson is an award winning science journalist and entrepreneur. She co-founded the publishing startup, Publet and is an adjunct professor at NYU where she designed a 5-week program in startup entrepreneurship. Recently she was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Citi Ventures, where she helped build D10X, an internal accelerator that brought 140 startups and counting through its program. Prior to that, for the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, Nicholson coached more than 3,000 scientists on how to communicate clearly and persuasively with colleagues, policy makers and the public. Nicholson is on the board for South by South West Interactive and is the board chair of PopTech. She is an AngelPad founder and holds degrees from Dalhousie University in Canada and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where she was awarded the Eibel Fellowship.

Jeremy Balkin

Jeremy K. Balkin is considered a leading international expert on ethics in banking, fintech and the strategic engagement of Millennials in financial services. He is currently Head of Innovation for HSBC and based in New York, where he serves on the U.S. Retail Banking and Wealth Management committee and is responsible for the fintech innovation and exponential growth strategy for the US. Jeremy is also the multi award winning author of two books, Investing with Impact: Why Finance is a Force for Good, and Millennialization of Everything: How to Win When Millennials Rule the World. The books have both received widespread international acclaim including the Gold Medal for Business Ethics at the Axiom Business Book Awards in 2016. His talk at TED about ethics in finance has been viewed nearly half a million times on YouTube and he also serves as an advisor to the world’s leading fintech accelerator, Startup Bootcamp in New York. In 2017, Jeremy was named among the Top 35 Millennial Influencers in USA by the NBT Movement in Washington, D.C. and he’s been designated a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Dan Seewald

Dan is a Senior Advisor at GIANT Innovation and the Former Head of Pfizer’s World Wide Innovation group where he designed and led the Dare to Try program, one of the Fortune 100’s leading design thinking and strategic innovation programs. Dan is a leading expert and author in the field of strategic innovation and is the founder of the Deliberate Innovation System™ which combines rigorous innovation techniques with the inspirational practices used in coaching high-performance athletes.

Dan has been on the front-lines of innovation for two decades, having been the head of a $1B+ global marketing portfolio, led new product development and market research teams. Outside of the workplace, Dan is a wrestling and soccer coach and has been a radio broadcaster. Dan is a trained moderator, certified as a creative problem solving (CPS) facilitator, Design Thinking (DT) Coach and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He did his graduate studies (MBA) at New York University in Political Economy and Entrepreneurship and has a BS in Accounting from The College of New Jersey.

Maja Lapcevic

Maja leads Mastercard Lab’s Global Innovation Programs to foster our thriving culture; the Mastercard Labs Experience Centers and Marketing team including Mastercard Experience; and our dedicated innovation relationship with select merchant clients.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Maja held a number of innovation roles at Citi Ventures including the build out of an Emerging Technology practice focused on deepening the understanding of emerging technologies and their implications for Citi’s businesses and clients, co-heading the D10x Global Incubator program where she led the definition, design and development of new products and services that solve for unmet client needs by co-innovating with internal and external partners, and in Venture Investing where she was responsible for startup sourcing, investment, and commercialization focusing on Commerce Payments, FinTech, and Market Technology domains.
