[Women in FinTech] Making Money Moves: The Future of Payments

Almost a $2 trillion dollar industry, global payments is experiencing unprecedented growth. On Thursday, May 16th join Women in FinTech and BBVA for an interactive discussion with four women representing some of the most innovative payments companies in the Bay Area as we dive into how this industry is changing one of our most basic transactions. With careers in product, analytics, and partnerships, our panelists will talk about the unique opportunities and challenges facing this industry as well as what it takes to build a successful career in FinTech.

This event will take place at the BBVA offices (201 Mission St 25th Floor). Doors open at 5:30pm with drinks and appetizers and the panel will begin at 6pm sharp. All are welcome – we hope to see you there!

Meet the panelists:


Susan French

As Head of Product at BBVA Open Platform Susan has lead the design and development of Open Platform’s groundbreaking suite of white-label, banking-as-a-service APIs in the US. Prior to joining BBVA Open Platform, Susan lead the team that created and launched Visa’s Developer Program, a suite of APIs that opened up Visa’s network to all developers. She was also Chief Operating Officer at Euphorion, a website design and development startup in Silicon Valley and started her own independent consulting business. Her 25 years of experience in financial services has given her an unparalleled understanding of what FinTech companies want from an API platform – and how to deliver it.


Archie Puri

Archana (Archie) Puri is a Senior Director at PayPal where she heads Product & Data for its Braintree division. Prior to joining Braintree, she was a Product & Program Manager at Yahoo. Archie was named one of the Top 25 Women in Payments for two consecutive years (2017 and 2018). Archie has 18+ years of experience in product development with strong domain context in Payments and deep expertise in Product and Technology Leadership. Archie’s path to technology leadership winds through various industries and tech roles – engineer, technical lead, analyst, program management and product management.


Melissa Alvarado

As VP of Growth and Analytics, Melissa shapes the marketing strategy and drives growth for Chime. Since joining in 2014, Melissa and her team have helped Chime grow its user base to over 3 million bank accounts, securing Chime’s lead in the US challenger banking segment and helping millions of Americans avoid bank fees and achieve financial peace of mind. Prior to joining Chime, Melissa held director-level roles at mobile banking app PageOnce, now part of Intuit, and adtech firm Adchemy. She began her career in financial services at Capital One where she managed credit risk policies for customer acquisition and retention in Hispanic markets.

A native of Honduras, Melissa came to the U.S. to attend school and earned her BS from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Melissa is also an Ironman triathlete and has completed three full Ironman triathlons.


Danika Lyon

Danika works on financial partnerships at Stripe, focused on the most strategic relationships. Previously, she helped build Stripe’s financial stack and risk operations as the company scaled from ~200 people in 2015 to currently over 1,600+ employees with a global footprint of 26 countries and growing. Prior to Stripe, she co-founded a mattress company, was a strategy consultant at Deloitte and served in the United States Senate for Senator Durbin. She began her career in investment banking. Danika’s varied background has served her well in payments as she helps Stripe and the partners they work with navigate the challenges of serving e-commerce businesses through varied regulatory landscapes. She lives in SF with her husband Joe and dog Zeus, and she is expecting her first child in late June.
